A No-Frills Nightclub That Gets the Job Done
The Hive is the kind of place you either love or tolerate, and honestly, it's pretty much the latter for most of us locals. It's open seven nights a week, which is great if you're in town and just want to dance until 3 AM without hunting for somewhere else. The drink prices are genuinely cheap, and they rotate through different music themes—chart, hip-hop, rock, retro—so there's always something if you know what you're into.
That said, don't expect any hospitality from the door staff. The bouncers have a notorious reputation for being rude, and if you're not the right size or mood, you might not get in. Inside, the venue can feel like an oven, especially on busy nights, and the facilities are often described as dirty. But if you're just there to dance and drink without spending a fortune, it does the job.
I wouldn't call it a hidden gem—it's more of a well-worn path that locals take when they want a straightforward night out. Just go in with low expectations, bring your own vibe, and don't expect the staff to care about your experience beyond getting you a drink.

Le Hive, c'est l'endroit qu'on connaît à Edinburgh, celui qu'on évite un peu mais qu'on finit par fréquenter quand on veut une soirée simple et pas chère. Ouvert sept jours sur sept jusqu'à 3h du matin, il propose des boissons abordables et une programmation musicale variée : chart, hip-hop, rock, rétro… Il y en a pour tous les goûts, tant que tu sais ce que tu veux.
Par contre, ne t'attends pas à de la gentillesse à l'entrée. Les vigiles ont mauvaise réputation, et si tu ne rentres pas dans leur critère du moment, tu risques de te faire rembarrer. À l'intérieur, l'ambiance est souvent étouffante, surtout les soirs de forte affluence, et les sanitaires laissent à désirer. Mais si tu cherches juste à danser sans te ruiner, ça fait l'affaire.
C'est pas un lieu de rêve, mais un classique du quartier de la Vieille Ville. Les Edinburghais y vont quand ils veulent une soirée sans prise de tête. Va avec des attentes basses, amène ta bonne humeur, et ne t'attends pas à ce que le personnel te fasse un accueil chaleureux.
