Authentic Italian trattoria with serious wine credentials

Sotto has quickly become a standout in Stockbridge’s restaurant scene, bringing genuine Italian warmth to Edinburgh. The two-level setup works beautifully—the bustling enoteca upstairs is great for drinks and light bites, while the trattoria downstairs offers a more relaxed, candlelit atmosphere perfect for lingering over pasta. The menu is straightforward but executed with care: the gnocco fritto is crispy and addictive, the rigatoni alla norma is rich and comforting, and the wine list is genuinely impressive with staff who can guide you through it without pretension.

What sets Sotto apart is the authenticity. Chef Francesco Ascrizzi brings Calabrian roots and experience from Edinburgh’s best Italian spots, and it shows in every dish. The service is friendly and knowledgeable, mostly Italian staff who clearly love what they do.
