Old Street Records hits that sweet spot between a proper live music venue and a no-nonsense bar. The energy is consistently high, especially on weekdays when the live acts kick off around 8pm. I’ve caught everything from neo-soul duos to full hip-hop bands, and the sound quality is decent for a venue this size. The cocktails are well-made and the happy hour pricing makes it easy to stay for a few rounds without breaking the bank.
What really sets it apart is the two-floor setup. The main room feels like a proper gig venue with standing room and a stage, while the basement offers a more intimate space for DJ sets and open mic nights. The murals and vinyl records on the walls give it that authentic rock ‘n’ roll vibe without trying too hard. Old Street Records est l’endroit idéal à Shoreditch pour profiter de musique live sans chichis. L’ambiance est toujours dynamique, surtout en semaine quand les groupes commencent vers 20h. J’y ai vu des duos de néo-soul jusqu’à des groupes de hip-hop complets, et le son est correct pour un lieu de cette taille. Les cocktails sont bien préparés et l’heure happy (17h-20h) permet de rester plusieurs verres sans se ruiner.
Ce qui le distingue vraiment, c’est sa configuration sur deux étages. La salle principale ressemble à une vraie salle de concert avec de l’espace debout et une scène, tandis que le sous-sol offre un espace plus intime pour les DJs et les nuits open mic.
