Mare Street Market
“Matches your preference for quiet, immersive environments. This venue's atmosphere aligns with your saved favorites.”
L'ambiance
Mare Street Market is Hackney’s go-to all-day hangout that somehow pulls off being both a serious brunch spot and a late-night cocktail den without losing its chill. The open-plan space with its central bar and kitchen feels effortlessly cool—think vintage charm meets modern ease, with lush greenery and natural light making it perfect for working all afternoon or catching up with friends over a bottle of natural wine. Skip the tourist traps and come here for the real Hackney experience: flaky ham and cheese croissants at breakfast, Korean cauliflower wings for lunch, or onglet steak with fries when you’re ready to eat like a local. The vibe is laid-back but never sloppy, with an outdoor terrace that’s ideal for summer evenings and a separate Chandelier Room for when you want something more intimate. Yes, it’s a bit pricey for what you get, and the breakfast burrito might not blow your mind, but that’s part of the charm—you’re paying for the atmosphere and the community feel. This is where Hackney locals actually go, not just for the food (though the Neapolitan pizza and Sunday roasts are solid), but because it’s one of the few places that genuinely feels like a neighborhood living room.

Hackney’s all-day neighborhood hangout
Mare Street Market is Hackney’s most reliable all-day venue, and for good reason. The space itself is a masterclass in laid-back cool—vintage furniture, potted plants, and an open kitchen that lets you watch the action while you sip your Flying Horse coffee. It’s the kind of place where you can show up at 8am for a ham and cheese croissant, stay until 2pm to get work done on your laptop, then return at 8pm for a bottle of natural wine and some onglet steak. The Chandelier Room adds a touch of elegance for special occasions, but the main dining area is where the magic happens, especially on the outdoor terrace in summer.
The food is solid if not groundbreaking. The Neapolitan pizza is genuinely good, the burrata with heritage tomatoes is fresh and simple, and the Korean cauliflower wings are a fun starter that actually delivers on crunch and flavor. The breakfast burrito is decent but not worth the hype, and honestly, some of the portions feel a bit small for the price. Still, this isn’t a place you come for Michelin-level gastronomy—it’s for the vibe, the community, and the fact that it feels like a real neighborhood spot rather than another polished chain.
