Tucked along the Rhine on Strasbourg's eastern edge, Jardin des Deux Rives is less a traditional park and more a living monument to Franco-German friendship. The centerpiece is Marc Mimram's elegant cable-stayed bridge, which literally erases the border as you walk between the French and German sides. While the vast open lawns can feel a bit empty on a weekday, the real magic happens in the quirky themed gardens right after the bridge—think oversized garden furniture in the Garden of Treats and the playful Flower Game installation that kids absolutely love.

A peaceful cross-border escape with playful touches
As a local, I've spent plenty of weekends here with my kids, and it's become one of our go-to spots for a change of pace from the city center. The Planet Trail is genuinely impressive—walking the 281 meters from the Sun to Neptune at 1/16 billion scale gives you a real sense of cosmic proportions. The themed gardens are where this place truly shines: the Garden of Treats with its giant chairs and jam jars always makes my daughter laugh, and the Flower Game's snail-shaped wooden logs are perfect for little explorers.
The bridge itself is worth the trip alone, especially at sunset when the light hits the water and the structure. It's not uncommon to see Germans and French mingling on foot or bike, which feels pretty special given the history. My only critique is that the main esplanade can feel a bit barren—bring a blanket and find a shady spot under the trees near the playgrounds. Weekends get busy with families, but weekday mornings are blissfully quiet if you want to stretch your legs along the Rhine.

En tant que Strasbourgeois, j'ai passé de nombreux week-ends ici avec mes enfants, et c'est devenu l'un de nos spots favoris pour changer du centre-ville. Le Planet Trail est vraiment impressionnant : parcourir les 281 mètres du Soleil à Neptune à l'échelle 1/16 milliards donne une vraie idée des proportions cosmiques. Les jardins thématiques sont là où cet endroit brille vraiment : le Jardin des Gourmandises avec ses chaises géantes et ses pots de confiture fait toujours rire ma fille, et les bûches en forme d'escargot du Jeu de la Fleur sont parfaites pour les petits explorateurs.
Le pont lui-même vaut le déplacement, surtout au coucher du soleil quand la lumière frappe l'eau et la structure. Il n'est pas rare de voir des Allemands et des Français se mêler à pied ou à vélo, ce qui semble assez spécial compte tenu de l'histoire. Ma seule critique est que l'esplanade principale peut sembler un peu vide—apportez une couverture et trouvez un endroit ombragé sous les arbres près des aires de jeux. Les week-ends sont bondés avec des familles, mais les matins en semaine sont d'un calme bienfaisant si vous voulez vous dégourdir les jambes le long du Rhin.
