A Local’s Wine Bar with Real Character
Ancestrale is a breath of fresh air in Copenhagen’s wine scene. It’s not trying to be the most glamorous spot in town—there’s no velvet ropes or overpriced cocktails—but it does something better: it’s genuinely welcoming. The wine list is curated with care, featuring natural and biodynamic bottles you won’t find at your average bar. The food is equally unpretentious: think hake with dill sauce, pork belly with black kale mayo, and a dessert of meringue with frozen black currants. Everything is well-executed and reasonably priced, especially if you catch the 4–6 PM wine tasting deal.
The atmosphere is where Ancestrale really shines. The warm yellow lighting, exposed brick, and communal wooden tables create a cozy, lived-in feel that makes you want to stay long after your last glass. It’s the kind of place where you’ll strike up a conversation with the person next to you, or just enjoy your own company with a book and a bottle of orange wine. It’s not perfect—the service can be a bit slow when busy—but that’s part of the charm. It feels like a neighborhood bar that locals actually love, not a tourist trap.

Ancestrale est une véritable pépite dans le paysage des bars à vin de Copenhague. Pas besoin de chercher la glamour ou les cocktails surpayés ici : ce lieu mise sur l’authenticité et la convivialité. La carte des vins, soigneusement sélectionnée, met en avant des vins naturels et biodynamiques que vous ne trouverez pas dans les bars classiques. Les plats, tout aussi simples, sont délicieux : hareng à la sauce d’aneth, ventre de porc avec mayonnaise de chou frisé, ou encore un dessert à la meringue et cassis. Tout est bien exécuté et à prix raisonnable, surtout si vous profitez de l’offre de dégustation de 16h à 18h.
L’ambiance est ce qui rend Ancestrale vraiment spécial. Les lumières jaunes chaleureuses, les murs de briques apparents et les tables en bois communes créent une atmosphère cozy et vivante, qui donne envie de rester bien après le dernier verre. C’est le genre d’endroit où vous pouvez discuter avec la personne à côté de vous ou simplement profiter de votre compagnie avec un livre et un verre de vin orange. Ce n’est pas parfait—le service peut être un peu lent quand il y a du monde—mais c’est ça qui fait son charme. On a l’impression d’être dans un bar de quartier que les locaux adorent vraiment.
