L'ambiance
The River Cafe has been a London institution since 1987, offering authentic Italian cuisine in a stunning Richard Rogers-designed space with a riverside terrace. The open kitchen and wood-fired oven create a buzzing atmosphere, while the menu focuses on honest, hearty dishes that let quality ingredients shine. Skip the tourist traps and come for the terrace seats - you'll understand why this place has earned its iconic status.

Iconic Italian Excellence by the Thames
The River Cafe remains one of London's most beloved Italian restaurants, and for good reason. Since opening in 1987, it has maintained its reputation for serving honest, rustic Italian food that prioritizes ingredient quality over flashiness. The open kitchen with its wood-fired oven is the heart of the restaurant, creating an energetic atmosphere that you can feel even before you taste the food.
The menu changes daily, but you'll always find dishes like fried Roman artichokes, fresh pasta with chestnuts and sage butter, or wood-roasted sole with black olives. The wine list is exceptional - arguably the best Italian selection in London. For the full experience, request a table on the riverside terrace where you can enjoy your meal with views of the Thames. It's not cheap, but the quality and atmosphere justify the price. Sunday lunch is particularly special if you can get a booking.
