Solid Sunday roasts and local charm by the heath
The Hare & Billet has earned its reputation as Blackheath's favourite pub, and it's easy to see why. Located right on the edge of Blackheath Common, this spot pulls in locals after their morning walks and families looking for a no-fuss Sunday roast. The food is consistently good—generous portions, well-cooked meats, and proper roast potatoes that don't disappoint. The prix fixe menu (£18 for two courses, £22 for three) is excellent value for the area, and Wing Wednesday (£5 for five wings) has become a proper local institution.
The space itself is cosy but can get loud, especially in the dining area at the back where sound bounces off the walls. It's not the place for a quiet conversation, but that's part of the charm—it's a proper pub where people come to eat, drink, and make noise. The dog-friendly policy and proximity to the heath make it ideal for post-walk refreshments, and the garden is a nice bonus in warmer weather. Service is friendly and efficient, though it can get busy on Sundays so booking ahead is wise.

Situé juste au bord du Blackheath Common, cet établissement attire les locaux après leurs promenades matinales et les familles en quête d'un roast du dimanche sans chichis. La cuisine est constamment bonne—des portions généreuses, des viandes bien cuites et de véritables pommes de terre rôties qui ne déçoivent pas. Le menu fixe (18 £ pour deux plats, 22 £ pour trois) offre un excellent rapport qualité-prix pour le quartier, et le Wing Wednesday (5 £ pour cinq ailes de poulet) est devenu une institution locale à part entière.
