L'ambiance

The Case Is Altered was a beloved countryside pub in Old Redding that closed its doors for good in March 2022 after over 200 years of serving the Harrow community. Once a family favorite with a large garden and woodland access, it became a victim of restricted parking hours at the nearby viewpoint car park, which the owners cited as making operations unsustainable. The building remains empty and privately owned, though locals continue to hope it might reopen as a pub or restaurant.

A Lost Countryside Gem in Old Redding

The Case Is Altered was a cherished institution in Old Redding for over two centuries, offering a rare slice of countryside tranquility just minutes from Harrow Weald. During its heyday in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, it was the go-to spot for families, with parents enjoying pints while kids roamed the spacious garden and play area that led directly into open woodland. The pub's rustic charm and hillside location provided stunning views over the borough, making it a perfect escape from the urban hustle.

Sadly, the pub closed permanently in March 2022, with management citing restricted parking hours at the nearby Harrow Viewpoint car park as a major factor in its demise. The council had addressed safety concerns at the car park due to anti-social behavior, but this inadvertently hurt the pub's business. Despite a brief revival in 2018 after years as an Indian restaurant, the venue couldn't survive the operational challenges. The building still stands, privately owned and looking well-maintained, but remains empty. Locals remain hopeful it might one day reopen, but for now, it's a fond memory of what once was.
