A Local’s Italian Favourite in Brook Green

The Bird in Hand is one of those places that feels like it was made for Londoners who know their way around a good meal and a proper pint. The pizza dough is clearly a labour of love—48-hour proofing and premium Italian flour mean every slice is light, crispy, and packed with flavour. I’m still thinking about the truffle pizza, and the duck breast salad is a standout if you’re after something a bit more refined. The staff are sharp and friendly, making you feel like you’ve walked into someone’s living room rather than a busy pub.

It’s not perfect, though. It’s closed on Mondays, which is a shame if you’re looking for a mid-week fix, and they only take card payments—so don’t turn up with cash expecting to be allowed in. The hours are also more geared toward evenings and weekends, so it’s not your go-to for a quick lunch. But if you’re after a solid spot for Italian-inspired food in a warm, lively setting, this place delivers without trying too hard.
