There are plenty of pubs in Islington that'll serve you a decent roast, but The Albion earns its reputation the old-fashioned way — by being genuinely lovely. It's a Georgian building on a quiet stretch of Thornhill Road, with several cosy rooms inside and a spectacular wisteria-draped garden out back that's easily one of the best beer gardens in N1. On a sunny Sunday, you'll want to arrive early or book ahead, because the whole of Barnsbury seems to converge here for roast lunch and a pint.
The food is solid British pub fare — the Sunday roast is the main event, with all the trimmings, and reviewers consistently praise it. There's also a whole roast pork feast that can feed a big group if you order it in advance, which is worth knowing about if you're planning a gathering. Outside of Sundays, the kitchen turns out reliable gastropub dishes — think roasted bream, seasonal salads, and the kind of menu that doesn't try too hard but delivers.

Il y a plein de pubs sympas à Islington, mais The Albion se distingue tout simplement parce qu'il est vraiment charmant. C'est un bâtiment géorgien sur Thornhill Road, une rue tranquille de Barnsbury, avec plusieurs salons cosy à l'intérieur et un jardin spectaculaire couvert de wistéria à l'arrière — sans doute l'un des plus beaux jardins de pub de tout N1. Par un dimanche ensoleillé, arrivez tôt ou réservez, car tout le quartier semble converger ici pour le rôti du dimanche et une pinte.
La cuisine est ce qu'on attend d'un bon gastropub britannique : le Sunday roast est la pièce maîtresse, avec tous les accompagnements, et les avis sont unanimes sur sa qualité. Il y a aussi un cochon rôti entier à partager pour les grands groupes, à commander à l'avance — parfait pour une réunion entre amis. En dehors du dimanche, la carte propose des plats fiables et de saison, sans prétention mais bien exécutés.

Le service peut être un peu débordé le week-end, mais l'atmosphère compense largement. C'est un pub où l'on s'attarde, pas où l'on fait une visite éclair.
