L'ambiance

Tucked down a quiet side street near St Paul's Cathedral, Susleny Coffee presents itself as a polished spot with a fancy exterior that promises more than it quite delivers. While the location is convenient for post-museum strolls and the space feels comfortable enough for a quick stop, the coffee is merely average and the cakes tend to run dry—think lemon drizzle with just a hint of zest on top, not the soak-through kind you'd hope for. It's a decent place to grab a takeaway if you're in the area, but locals with higher standards might find themselves reaching for one of the many better options scattered around St Paul's.

Convenient but forgettable

Susleny Coffee sits in a prime spot near St Paul's Cathedral, right off a quiet side street that makes it easy to find if you know where to look. The exterior is polished and the interior offers plenty of space, which is great if you want to linger—but don't plan on getting a table, as they seem to prefer takeaway service. I tried a decaf cappuccino and a slice of lemon drizzle cake; the coffee was perfectly drinkable but nothing to write home about, and the cake was dry with the lemon flavor mostly confined to the top layer. For the price you're paying in central London, you'd expect a bit more effort, especially given the competition in the area.

The staff are friendly enough and do their job efficiently, but there's a sense that this place is more about convenience than craftsmanship. It's the kind of spot you'd visit if you're passing through and need a caffeine fix, but not one I'd seek out specifically. If you're looking for a place to sit and enjoy a proper coffee experience, there are better options nearby. Still, it's not terrible—just a bit forgettable in a city full of character-filled cafés.
