A Sophisticated Smoke & Sip Club in the Heart of Old Town
Podwale Bar and Books is one of those rare spots in Warsaw that actually delivers on its promise of Old World charm mixed with modern sophistication. The Anglo-Colonial decor—think dark wood, leather, and warm lighting—creates an atmosphere that feels like you’ve stepped into a private club in London or New York. If you’re into cigars and whiskey, this is your place; they’ve got a solid selection of both, and the staff clearly knows their stuff. The live jazz nights, especially when Robert & Waldi are playing, add a layer of authenticity that’s hard to find elsewhere in the city.
It’s not perfect, though. The vibe can feel a bit stuffy if you’re not in the mood for a slow, contemplative night out, and the prices reflect the premium positioning. But if you’re looking for a place to unwind with a good drink and maybe a cigar, Podwale delivers. The location in Stare Miasto is also a plus—you can walk off the evening in the Old Town afterward.

Le Podwale Bar and Books est l’un de ces endroits rares à Varsovie qui tient ses promesses : un mélange de charme vieux monde et de sophistication moderne. Le décor anglo-colonial, avec son bois sombre, ses fauteuils en cuir et son éclairage chaleureux, donne l’impression d’être dans un club privé à Londres ou New York. Si vous aimez les cigares et le whisky, c’est votre adresse : ils proposent une belle sélection des deux, et le personnel s’y connaît vraiment. Les soirées jazz en direct, surtout quand Robert & Waldi se produisent, ajoutent une touche d’authenticité difficile à trouver ailleurs dans la ville.
Ce n’est pas parfait non plus. L’ambiance peut sembler un peu trop sérieuse si vous n’êtes pas dans l’humeur d’une soirée lente et contemplative, et les prix reflètent ce positionnement haut de gamme. Mais si vous cherchez un endroit pour vous détendre avec un bon verre et peut-être un cigare, le Podwale fait le job. La situation dans le Stare Miasto est aussi un atout : vous pouvez faire une promenade en soirée dans la Vieille Ville après.
