Oak Caffe has been a Whetstone institution for years, and it's easy to see why. Walk in on a Saturday morning and you'll be elbow-to-elbow with locals who know the drill: get a table, order from the simple menu, and enjoy a proper British breakfast without the fuss. The staff are efficient and friendly, even when the place is absolutely packed (which is most of the time).
The food is straightforward and satisfying. I went for the Eggs Benedict—poached eggs, smoked salmon, and hollandaise on sourdough—and it was done well, though it could have been served a bit hotter. My companion had the Cafe Breakfast with smoked salmon, scrambled egg, and avocado, which was fresh and filling. The coffee is genuinely good, a proper contrast to the watered-down stuff you get in chain cafes. Don't come here expecting a quiet, Instagram-worthy brunch spot. Come for the food, the buzz, and the fact that it's a place where locals actually go.

Oak Caffe est un véritable institution à Whetstone, et il est facile de comprendre pourquoi. Arrêtez-vous un samedi matin et vous vous retrouverez coudes à coudes avec les habitants qui connaissent la routine : trouvez une table, commandez au menu simple, et savourez un vrai petit-déjeuner britannique sans chichis. Le personnel est efficace et sympathique, même quand le café est bondé (ce qui est le cas la plupart du temps).
La nourriture est simple et satisfaisante. J'ai opté pour les Eggs Benedict - œufs pochés, saumon fumé et sauce hollandaise sur du pain au levain - et c'était bien préparé, même si cela aurait pu être servi un peu plus chaud. Mon compagnon a pris le Cafe Breakfast avec saumon fumé, œufs brouillés et avocat, frais et copieux. Le café est vraiment bon, un vrai contraste avec les versions diluées qu'on trouve dans les chaînes. Ne venez pas ici en quête d'un brunch calme et parfait pour Instagram. Venez pour la nourriture, l'ambiance, et parce que c'est un endroit où les locaux viennent vraiment.
