L'ambiance

This Aussie-inspired spot in Queen's Park has become a local favourite for its relaxed beach vibes and serious coffee game. Owner Elliot Milne's background in Ethiopia's coffee initiative shows in the excellent brews from their own Album Coffee Roasters, while head chef Darren Leadbeater brings restaurant-quality dishes to an all-day menu that runs from morning coffee through to evening cocktails. The expanded space now features a proper bar, counter dining with views into the kitchen, and a heated outdoor area perfect for people-watching on Lonsdale Road. Skip the generic chain cafes and come here for their signature fried potato gems topped with buttermilk and roe, or the squid ink tagliatelle with cock crab in tomato fondue. The banana bread with espresso cream is worth the trip alone, and if you're visiting in the evening, their Australian wine list and craft cocktails like the Milk Beach Martini hit the spot.

Authentic Aussie vibes with serious coffee credentials

Milk Beach has carved out a solid reputation in Queen's Park as the go-to spot for authentic Australian vibes without needing to book a flight to Sydney. The space itself is welcoming - modern but not pretentious, with that golden-hour lighting that makes everything look better. You'll find locals mixing with visitors, which is always a good sign.

The food is where this place really shines. It's not just about the coffee (though the brew is genuinely excellent), it's the thoughtful small plates that make you want to order everything. The padron peppers with prawn bisque are a perfect starter, and the burrata with pears and onions is a beautiful winter dish. For something more substantial, the chicken schnitty with fermented chilli mayo and chicken salt chips feels like proper Aussie comfort food done right.

Brunch here is a no-brainer - the banana bread with espresso cream is legendary, and the soft-boiled eggs in a jar with pumpkin purée are both Instagram-worthy and delicious. The staff seem genuinely passionate about what they're serving, which makes the whole experience feel warmer than the average café. Worth the trip to NW6.
