Let's be honest — finding a decent meal near the Eiffel Tower without getting fleeced is a challenge, and that's exactly why Bistrot Le Champ de Mars earns its keep. Run by the Dalle family for over three decades, this place on Avenue de la Bourdonnais has figured out the formula: honest French cooking, reasonable prices given the location, and a terrace that fills up the second the sun comes out. The menu leans classic — think steak frites, escargots, duck confit — with a few international dishes thrown in for the diverse crowd that passes through.
The interior is a time capsule of 1960s decor, which sounds kitsch but actually gives the place character that the cookie-cutter bistros nearby completely lack. They open at 6am and don't close until 2am, making it one of the few spots in the 7th where you can grab a coffee at dawn or a late-night glass of wine after the tower crowds thin out. The staff handles the constant tourist flow with impressive grace, and the menus come in ten languages — which tells you something about who's eating here, but also about how efficiently they've organized the operation.
It's not going to blow your culinary mind. The food is competent rather than inspired, and on busy summer evenings the wait can test your patience. Tenu par la famille Dalle depuis plus de trente ans, cet établissement sur l'avenue de la Bourdonnais a trouvé la formule : une cuisine française honnête, des prix raisonnables vu l'emplacement, et une terrasse qui se remplit dès que le soleil pointe le bout de son nez. La carte reste classique — steak frites, escargots, confit de canard — avec quelques plats internationaux pour la clientèle de passage.
La salle intérieure est une capsule temporelle des années 60, ça pourrait faire kitsch mais ça donne au contraire une personnalité que les bistrots aseptisés du coin n'ont pas du tout. Ils ouvrent à 6h et ferment à 2h du matin, ce qui en fait l'un des rares endroits du 7e où l'on peut prendre un café à l'aube ou un verre de vin tardif après que la foule se soit dissipée.
