L'ambiance

Tucked into the historic cellar vaults right on Stortorget, Kaffekoppen is the kind of place where you can sip coffee while feeling the weight of centuries in the stone walls above you. It's not trying to be trendy—it's a reliable, no-frills spot that's been serving Stockholm's old town since 1997. The terrace in summer is a real treat, offering a front-row seat to the square's bustle without the pretension of some of the fancier spots nearby.

Historic Cellar Café with a Local Feel

Kaffekoppen is exactly what you'd expect from a classic Stockholm café in Gamla stan: unpretentious, comfortable, and steeped in history. The cellar vault location is the real draw here—sitting in those stone-walled rooms feels like stepping back in time, which is perfect for a quiet coffee or a simple lunch away from the tourist crowds. Their cinnamon buns are solid, the coffee is reliably good, and the prices are fair for the location.

The summer terrace is where locals actually hang out, sipping drinks while watching the square buzz with activity. It's not fancy, but it's authentic. Skip the overpriced tourist traps a few steps away and grab a seat here instead. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and you won't feel rushed. It's the kind of place you can come back to without ever getting bored.
