Sandra Bello and chef Erik "Smokey" Bautista have created a space that feels less like a restaurant and more like a suburban skate park where the only rule is "no cutlery, get messy." It's vibrant, nonconformist, and honestly one of the most exciting things to hit Leytonstone in years.

Messy, loud, and utterly delicious
If you're looking for a quiet, refined dining experience, Homies on Donkeys is not your spot. This is a place where you'll leave with salsa verde on your chin and a playlist of Naughty By Nature stuck in your head. The tacos are the star here—think reverse-braised bavette, confit pork with dripping, and king prawns that come with a heroic amount of garlic and chili. Even the refried beans have this miso-like depth that elevates them from side dish to main event.
The atmosphere is intentionally chaotic in the best way possible. Graffiti-strewn walls, 90s hip-hop blasting from the speakers, and seating that's more "wedged in" than "comfortable." But that's the point—it's a sou'wester kind of place where you're meant to get messy and enjoy the sensory whiplash. The staff are friendly but busy, and if you're wearing something you can't wipe clean, maybe reconsider your outfit choice.
What makes this place special is its independence and authenticity. After five years in Walthamstow with just eight seats, they've scaled up without losing their soul. Ici, vous sortirez avec de la salsa verte sur le menton et un tube de Naughty By Nature collé aux oreilles.
