Evans & Peel is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've stumbled into a movie set, and honestly, that's exactly the point. The entrance alone is worth the visit—ring the bell, get grilled by a desk clerk about your "case," and then slip through to a basement that's darker than your average speakeasy. The atmosphere is thick with 1920s intrigue, though once you're settled, the pantomime drops and you're just in a normal(ish) bar with bare brick walls, cracked tiles, and lighting that's more "mystery novel" than "restaurant menu."
The drinks are where the real magic happens. The cocktail menu leans heavily into the theme with creative spins on classics, though they're not afraid to get experimental. Pair them with the smoked offerings—specifically the pulled pork slider or the beef rib—and you've got a menu that's as fun as it is satisfying. It's not fine dining, but it's perfect for letting loose and enjoying the novelty of the experience without feeling like you're being sold a tourist trap.

Evans & Peel, c'est le genre d'endroit qui vous donne l'impression d'être tombé dans un film, et honnêtement, c'est exactement le but. L'entrée vaut à elle seule le détour : sonnez à la cloche, faites-vous interroger par le réceptionnaire sur votre « affaire », puis glissez dans un sous-sol plus sombre que la moyenne des speakeasies. L'ambiance est chargée d'intrigue des années 20, mais une fois installé, le théâtre s'arrête et vous vous retrouvez dans un bar normal (presque) avec des murs de briques apparentes, des carreaux ébréchés et un éclairage plus « roman policier » que « carte de restaurant ».
Les cocktails sont là où la vraie magie opère. La carte s'inspire fortement du thème avec des créations originales sur les classiques, sans hésiter à expérimenter. Associez-les aux plats fumés – en particulier le slider au porc effiloché ou la côte de bœuf – et vous avez une carte aussi amusante que satisfaisante. Ce n'est pas de la haute cuisine, mais c'est parfait pour se détendre et profiter de la nouveauté de l'expérience sans avoir l'impression de se faire arnaquer.

Il ne va pas remporter de prix pour la subtilité, mais l'engagement dans le jeu est admirable, et les boissons et les plats tiennent la route face aux théâtraux. Juste ne vous attendez pas à voir votre assiette clairement – l'éclairage est si sombre que vous pourriez avoir besoin d'une lampe de poche pour trouver votre fourchette.
