L'ambiance

Tucked away in the heart of Vieux-Lille, Elizabeth's feels like a proper English tearoom that somehow fits perfectly into a French cobblestone street. You'll find yourself drawn in by the smell of fresh scones and the promise of a proper cuppa, but stay for the French twist on classic Anglo-Saxon treats. The staff treats you like an old friend, and honestly, the queue outside is worth it for a chocolate scone that's actually flaky and not just a dense brick. What sets this place apart is the genuine care in everything they make—all homemade, no shortcuts, and they actually source locally when they can. It's that rare spot where you can enjoy a proper afternoon tea without feeling like you're in a tourist trap, and the fact that they've been doing it since 2011 (with roots going back to 1992) shows they've got the formula down. Skip the rush hour if you can, but if you're going to go, order the scones with the orange marmalade and don't be shy about asking for recommendations.

A proper English tearoom with French soul

Elizabeth's is one of those places that feels like a little piece of England transplanted to Lille, but with enough French flair to feel right at home in the Vieux-Lille. The moment you walk in, you're greeted with the warm smell of baked goods and the kind of service that makes you feel like you're visiting a friend's kitchen. Their scones are the real deal—properly crumbly, served with actual clotted cream and orange marmalade that's not too sweet.

The menu is a delightful mix of Anglo-Saxon classics and French touches. You'll find everything from proper English breakfasts to French-style quiches, and the fact that everything is made in-house means you're getting quality you won't find at chain cafes. The atmosphere is perfect for a slow afternoon where you can sip tea, people-watch, and actually enjoy your food without rushing.

It's not perfect—the space can get crowded on weekends, and parking in Vieux-Lille is always a challenge—but that's part of the charm. This is where locals go when they want something real, not just another Instagram-worthy spot.
