Reliable chain fare, but lacks local charm

Côte Brasserie in Mortlake is exactly what you'd expect from the chain: competent, consistent, and utterly predictable. The menu hits all the French brasserie notes—onion soup with Comté croûtes, calamari, fillet steak, and the ever-popular half-chargrilled chicken. The frites are free-flowing, which is always a plus, though some reviewers have noted they've lost their crispness over time. The service is efficient and friendly, but it lacks the warmth you'd find in an independent spot.

The space is clean and modern, with a polished brasserie aesthetic that feels more corporate than cozy. It's a decent option if you're in the area and need a reliable meal, but it doesn't offer much in the way of local character or culinary excitement. For a more authentic French experience in Richmond, you'd be better off seeking out one of the neighborhood's independent bistros or trying the Côte in Richmond town center, which seems to have slightly better reviews.
