Charivari is the kind of neighborhood bistro we all dream of having just steps away from our front door: small, sincere, and a little bohemian. Nestled in Saint-Gilles on a street with a true sense of community, this spot is decked out with understated vintage decor and serves up a joyfully short, well-executed menu that changes daily. On the evening we visited, among the neighborly vibes, we savored a plate of pasta al ragù bianco—slow-cooked and creamy without being heavy, accented with fresh sage and carpeted with grated Parmesan. Simple, yes, but refined and comforting. For the sweet finale, a saffron ice cream sundae drizzled with rosewater honey and sprinkled with crunchy caramelized pistachios was a decadent finish served with a flourish. The naturally-minded wine list offers insightful recommendations, and the Espresso Martini is out of this world.
The pricing is refreshingly reasonable for the quality: appetizers run €9-13, mains €17-21. It's the kind of place where you can come alone and feel welcome, or bring a date for an intimate evening. Charivari est ce type de bistro de quartier dont on rêve tous d'avoir juste à côté de chez soi : petit, sincère et un peu bohème. Niché à Saint-Gilles dans une rue qui a un vrai sens de communauté, cet endroit est décoré avec une décoration vintage discrète et propose un menu joyeusement court et bien exécuté qui change quotidiennement. Le soir de notre visite, dans cette ambiance de quartier, nous avons dégusté un plat de pâtes au ragù bianco, mijoté et crémeux sans être lourd, agrémenté de sauge fraîche et recouvert de parmesan râpé. Simple, oui, mais raffiné et réconfortant. Pour la fin sucrée, un sundae de glace au safran arrosé de miel à la rose et parsemé de pistaches caramélisées croustillantes était une fin décadente servie avec élégance. La carte des vins naturellement orientée offre des recommandations pertinentes, et le Espresso Martini est exceptionnel.
Les prix sont rafraîchissants pour la qualité : les entrées varient entre 9 et 13 €, les plats principaux entre 17 et 21 €.
