Café Tiergarten
“Matches your preference for quiet, immersive environments. This venue's atmosphere aligns with your saved favorites.”
L'ambiance
Tucked into the historic Schwedenhaus in Hansaviertel, Café Tiergarten is less a café and more a living piece of Berlin’s post-war modernist revival. Since reopening in 2025 after careful restoration, it’s become the neighborhood’s quiet anchor—serving NANO Coffee’s house blend in a space where Egon Eiermann chairs sit alongside vintage Pott cutlery. Come for the filter coffee and the Hanako miso cookie, stay for the sense that you’ve stumbled into a real local hangout rather than a tourist trap.

A Modernist’s Quiet Corner in Hansaviertel
Café Tiergarten feels like a secret the Hansaviertel has been keeping for decades. Located in the ground floor of the listed Schwedenhaus, it’s a study in restrained elegance—think mid-century chairs, warm wood tones, and the kind of coffee that makes you want to linger over your notebook. The NANO Coffee house blend is smooth and complex, and the Hanako miso cookie (when in stock) is a revelation: salty, sweet, and utterly addictive. It’s not flashy, but that’s the point. This is where locals come to read, work, or just watch the world go by without the pressure of a crowded terrace or loud music.
What sets it apart is the attention to detail. Every object in the room has a story—from the Pott cutlery designed by Hans Schwippert in 1968 to the Foster + Partners corkscrew on the counter. It’s clear this place was built for people who appreciate design as much as coffee. The only downside? It’s card-only, so come prepared, and don’t expect to linger past 6 PM on weekdays. But if you’re looking for a café that respects both its history and its guests, this is it.
