Cosmopolitan neighborhood gem with real character
Bonbourg has quickly become one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants in Nantes. The concept is simple but executed with real care: think cosmopolitan small plates that reflect the owners' travels around the world, mixed with nods to their British background. The eggplant caviar starter is a standout—creamy, smoky, and perfect for sharing. For mains, the vegetarian burger surprised me; it's not just a meat substitute but a genuinely delicious option with thoughtful flavors.
The atmosphere hits that sweet spot between neighborhood casual and slightly elevated. You'll find locals mixed with visitors, and the service is consistently friendly without being over-the-top. Prices are reasonable for what you get—the lunch menu around €21 gives you solid value. The spot works well for a quick lunch, an after-work drink with friends, or a relaxed dinner. It's not trying to be fancy, and that's exactly why it works.

Bonbourg est rapidement devenu l'un de mes restaurants de quartier préférés à Nantes. Le concept est simple mais bien exécuté : de petites assiettes cosmopolites qui reflètent les voyages des propriétaires à travers le monde, avec des touches de leur arrière-plan britannique. Le caviar d'aubergine en entrée est un vrai coup de cœur—crémeux, fumé, parfait à partager. Pour les plats principaux, le burger végétarien m'a surpris : ce n'est pas juste un substitut de viande mais une option délicieuse avec des saveurs réfléchies.
L'ambiance trouve le juste équilibre entre convivialité de quartier et une certaine élégance. Vous y trouverez des locaux mélangés à des visiteurs, et le service est constamment amical sans être excessif. Les prix sont raisonnables pour ce que vous obtenez—le menu midi autour de 21€ offre une bonne valeur.
