The Astra Kulturhaus is one of those Berlin venues that feels like it's been around forever, even though it only reopened as a concert hall in 2009. The building itself tells the story—former East German railway cultural center, now a raw, industrial concert space with character you can't fake. The hall holds around 2,000 people, which is the sweet spot: big enough to see touring acts, but still intimate enough that you actually feel the music.
The columns in the hall are a bit of a gamble—some seats are blocked, so get there early if you want a good view. But honestly, that's part of the charm. The beer garden is the real winner here, especially in summer. It's spacious, the drinks are reasonably priced for a concert venue, and it's a great place to hang before or after the show. The lineup runs the gamut from indie and rock to electro and experimental, with both local Berlin bands and international names like Florence and the Machine having played here. If you're into underground music culture with a side of history, the Astra is a must.

L'Astra Kulturhaus est l'un de ces lieux berlinois qui donnent l'impression d'exister depuis toujours, même s'il n'a rouvert en salle de concert qu'en 2009. Le bâtiment raconte lui-même l'histoire—ancien centre culturel de la Deutsche Reichsbahn de l'Est, aujourd'hui une salle de concert brute et industrielle avec un caractère qu'on ne peut pas fabriquer. La salle accueille environ 2 000 personnes, ce qui est le juste milieu : assez grande pour voir des groupes en tournée, mais assez intime pour vraiment ressentir la musique.
Les colonnes dans la salle sont un petit pari—certaines places sont obstruées, alors arrivez tôt si vous voulez une bonne vue. Mais honnêtement, c'est aussi une partie du charme. Le jardin de bière est le vrai gagnant ici, surtout en été. Il est spacieux, les boissons sont raisonnablement priced pour une salle de concert, et c'est un excellent endroit pour traîner avant ou après le spectacle. La programmation va de l'indie et du rock à l'électro et à l'expérimental, avec des groupes locaux berlinois et des noms internationaux comme Florence and the Machine qui y ont joué.
