Retro charm with solid food
Arlo & Moe feels like a time capsule from the early 2010s New Brockley scene – retro formica tables, quirky posters, and a menu that doesn't try to be everything to everyone. I went for a late lunch on a snowy Sunday and ended up with a bowl of homemade dahl (they'd sold out of the soup of the day) served with crusty pain de campagne from Boulangerie Jade. The flavors were bold and warming, exactly what you need when you've been trudging through snow.
The avocado and feta "sexy toast" is the star here – two thick slices of sourdough topped generously with creamy avocado and salty feta, finished with a hefty grind of black pepper. It's simple but executed perfectly. For dessert, I grabbed a slice of Guinness chocolate cake (a local recommended it), which had that deep, complex flavor you only get when someone actually knows how to use stout in baking. The bread pudding was also worth trying – dense and rich, probably made from day-old bread.
Service was friendly and unpretentious, and the space is small enough that you'll feel like you've stumbled onto a neighborhood secret. It's not fancy, but it's exactly what a local café should be: warm, welcoming, and serving food that actually tastes like it was made with care.

Tables en formica rétro, posters décalés au mur, et une carte courte mais efficace – parfait pour un brunch du week-end ou un déjeuner rapide entre deux courses. Le "sexy toast" (avocat et feta) tient ses promesses, et si vous avez de la chance, il restera encore du gâteau au chocolat à la Guinness dans la vitrine.
Je suis allé y déjeuner un dimanche ensoleillé et j'ai fini avec un bol de dahl maison (ils étaient en rupture de soupe du jour), servi avec du pain de campagne croustillant de Boulangerie Jade. Les saveurs étaient audacieuses et réconfortantes, exactement ce qu'il faut après une promenade dans la neige. L'avocat et la feta sur le "sexy toast" sont la star ici – deux tranches épaisses de pain au levain généreusement garnies d'avocat crémeux et de feta salée, le tout avec une bonne mouture de poivre noir. Simple mais exécuté parfaitement.
Le service était amical et sans prétention, et l'espace est assez petit pour qu'on se sente comme si on avait découvert un secret de quartier. Ce n'est pas fancy, mais c'est exactement ce qu'un café local devrait être : chaleureux, accueillant, et servant des plats qui ont vraiment l'air faits avec soin.
