The neighbourhood café Bruntsfield deserves
If you're in Bruntsfield and want a café that feels like it actually belongs to the neighbourhood, The Bonnie Barista is your spot. There's nothing trendy or over-engineered about it — just a small, warm space run by people who clearly give a damn. The coffee is consistently good: properly pulled espresso, well-steamed milk, no fuss. It's the kind of cup you actually look forward to rather than just tolerate.
The food holds up too. The sandwiches are solid — fresh ingredients, not the sad supermarket stuff you get at some cafés — and the sweet treats rotate, so there's always something new to try. I've had a decent lemon drizzle cake and some nice pastries on different visits. Nothing groundbreaking, but genuinely enjoyable.
The space is small, so don't expect to linger for hours with a laptop. That's part of the charm, though — it's a grab-and-go or sit-for-20-minutes kind of place. The staff are friendly, and the dog-friendly policy is the real deal: every pup gets a free pupacino, which is always a hit with the regulars. Si vous êtes à Bruntsfield et que vous cherchez un café qui appartient vraiment au quartier, The Bonnie Barista est l'endroit qu'il vous faut. Rien de tendance ni d'artificiel — juste un petit espace chaleureux tenu par des gens qui se soucient vraiment de ce qu'ils servent. Le café est toujours bon : un espresso bien extrait, du lait bien moussé, sans chichis. C'est le genre de tasse qu'on attend avec plaisir, pas qu'on subit.
Côté food, ça tient la route aussi. Les sandwichs sont solides — des ingrédients frais, loin de la tristesse de supermarché qu'on trouve ailleurs — et les douceurs tournent, donc il y a toujours quelque chose de nouveau à goûter. J'y ai pris un bon gâteau au citron et quelques belles pâtisseries à différentes visites. Rien de révolutionnaire, mais franchement agréable.
L'espace est petit, donc ne comptez pas y traîner des heures avec un ordinateur. C'est partie intégrante du charme — c'est un endroit où l'on prend son café et l'on repart, ou où l'on s'assoit vingt minutes. Le personnel est sympa, et la politique « chiens bienvenus » n'est pas un vain mot : chaque chien reçoit un pupacino gratuit, ce qui fait toujours mouche auprès des habitués.
