Sambuus Milano is the only Somali restaurant in Italy, and that alone makes it worth the detour to Municipio 2. The chef personally walks you through the menu, the anjera with meat is the star, and the whole experience feels like being invited into someone's home rather than dining out. Portions run small and the spice level is dialed back, so come hungry and ask for extra heat if you want it.

The only Somali table in Italy — and it delivers
Sambuus Milano isn't trying to impress you with fancy decor or a long wine list — it's the only Somali restaurant in Italy, and it leans hard into authenticity. The chef comes out to explain the dishes, which matters because most of us have never navigated a Somali menu before. Go straight for the anjera with meat: that spongy flatbread paired with perfectly spiced stew is the dish everyone talks about, and for good reason. The tea service at the end rounds things out nicely and adds a cultural touch you won't get anywhere else in Milan.
The flip side is that portions are on the small side — one Google reviewer noted the plates aren't copious — and the spice level is gentler than you might expect from East African cooking. If you like heat, don't be shy about asking. But what you're really paying for here is the hospitality and the novelty. The staff genuinely care, the atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, and you walk away feeling like you've learned something. For anyone tired of the same old Milanese dining circuit, this is a genuine change of pace.
