La Gâche is that rare spot in Vieux Lyon where locals actually eat, serving generous portions of genuine Lyonnais classics without the tourist trap markup. The chocolate lava dessert alone is worth the visit, but don't skip the frog legs in butter and garlic or the duck tartine. Just remember they're closed Tuesday and Wednesday, so plan accordingly.
Authentic Lyonnais fare with locals' favorite chocolate lava
La Gâche has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Old Lyon, and for good reason. This cozy restaurant serves authentic Lyonnais cuisine with generous portions that won't break the bank. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, filled with locals who keep coming back for the genuine flavors.
The menu features classic dishes done right - the frog legs in butter and garlic are perfectly prepared, and the duck tartine with goat cheese and apple is a creative twist on traditional fare. The trio quenelle is a must-try if you want to experience this Lyonnais specialty. But honestly, save room for dessert because the chocolate lava cake is exceptional - even avid bakers have been impressed by its quality.
The service is friendly and unpretentious, which adds to the overall experience. Just be aware they're closed Tuesday and Wednesday, so plan your visit for Thursday through Sunday. Whether you're a visitor wanting to taste real Lyon or a local looking for a reliable spot, La Gâche delivers every time.
