Fordbridge Park is the kind of local green space that locals in Ashford and Spelthorne actually use, not just pass through. It’s got that classic British park feel with a well-maintained bowling green that’s the heart of the community here, plus tennis courts and plenty of open lawn for picnics. The perimeter footpath makes it a decent spot for a morning walk, and you’ll find it’s busiest mid-morning when the bowls club is active.
A Local’s Park for Sports and Strolls
Fordbridge Park is a no-nonsense local park that serves its community well. The standout feature is undoubtedly the bowling green, which is clearly the social hub here—you’ll see players gathered most mornings, especially during league season. The tennis courts are also well-used, though they can get booked up quickly on weekends.
The park itself is fairly basic but tidy, with a decent perimeter path for walking or jogging. It’s not a destination park with fancy amenities, but that’s part of its charm. You’ll find it’s most lively between 10am and noon when the bowls club is in full swing. In the evenings, it tends to quieten down, making it a peaceful spot for an evening stroll.
If you’re looking for a place to play lawn sports or just enjoy a bit of green space without the tourist crowds, this is it. It’s not glamorous, but it’s genuine—and that’s what locals appreciate about it.
