Dastaan is where elevated Indian street food meets elegant simplicity in Woluwé-Saint-Lambert. Skip the tourist trap expectations of tikka masala and naan—this place serves what India actually eats day to day: crunchy samosas, explosive dahi puri, and spicy chole that hit every flavor note. The white tablecloths and fresh flowers create a refined setting, but the food is all about bold spices, contrasting textures, and genuine street food soul.
Elevated Indian Street Food Done Right
Dastaan is a breath of fresh air in Brussels' Indian dining scene. Forget everything you think you know about Indian food—there's no chicken tikka masala or garlic naan here. Instead, you'll find authentic street food elevated with precision and care. The Dahi Puri alone is worth the trip: those delicate, crunchy shells filled with potatoes, chickpeas, yogurt, and chutney create an explosion of sweet, salty, and spicy flavors in one bite. The Okra Fries are equally addictive, crispy and perfectly seasoned.
The setting is surprisingly elegant with white tablecloths and fresh flowers on every table, which might seem odd for "street food" but it works beautifully. The owners, including Karan who trained in a Michelin-starred restaurant, clearly put thought into both the food and the experience. It's become a neighborhood favorite in Woluwé-Saint-Lambert for good reason—the menu changes regularly to keep things interesting, and the team genuinely cares about what they serve.
My only critique? It can get quite busy, and you'll want to make a reservation. But if you're willing to wait, you're in for a real treat. This isn't just good Indian food in Brussels—it's good food, period.
