Wilson's is the neighbourhood restaurant Ladywell didn't know it needed until it opened its doors in 2024. Run by the Falconers (who also own Oscar's coffee shop and Plenty refill shop across the road) with chef Henry Freestone in the kitchen, this intimate spot serves vivid European dishes that punch well above its weight. The menu changes monthly, but you'll always find standout snacks like beef shin nuggets and crostini with brown crab rarebit, plus a Wednesday pasta night that's become a local institution.
Ladywell's Intimate European Bistro
Wilson's feels like a place that's been around for years, even though it only opened in 2024. The space is a gorgeous warren of two dining rooms dressed in plaster pink and emerald green, with warm lighting and candles melting over vintage wooden tables. It's the kind of neighbourhood spot that feels genuinely knitted into the fabric of Ladywell, thanks to the Falconers' deep local roots.
The food is where Wilson's truly shines. Chef Henry Freestone brings serious pedigree (ex-Crispin, Peckham Cellars, Bambi) and it shows in every dish. The snacks are non-negotiable - the beef shin nuggets with horseradish sour cream and the brown crab rarebit crostini are standouts you'll want to order every time. The mains are vivid and intense, with a focus on seasonal ingredients and European flavours. Wednesday night pasta service has become a local institution, and the Sunday roast is proper and comforting.
Bookings are released four weeks in advance and fill up fast, but they do keep space for walk-ins, especially early evening before 6:30pm and at lunchtime. If you can get a table, Wilson's is worth the trip to Ladywell - it's the kind of place that makes you feel like you've discovered something special, even if your neighbours already know all about it.
