Solid specialty coffee with a no-frills vibe
Waycup Specialty Coffee on Calle Alcalá is one of those places that doesn’t try too hard but nails the essentials. The space is small and industrial, with a long rust-colored bar that dominates the room and white walls that keep it feeling crisp. What really sets it apart is the coffee—our flat whites were perfectly balanced, not too hot, with silky microfoam and just the right milk-to-espresso ratio. It’s a spot where you’ll find serious coffee drinkers rather than tourists, and that’s exactly the kind of crowd I like to hang around.
The downstairs area is worth noting if you’re planning to linger, though we missed it at first because we were too focused on the bar. Prices are reasonable for specialty coffee in Madrid (around €2.50 for a flat white), and the service is efficient without being rushed. If you’re looking for a place to grab a proper cup of coffee without the pretension or the crowds of the main tourist zones, Waycup delivers.

Waycup Specialty Coffee, situé rue Alcalá, est l’un de ces endroits qui ne cherche pas à impressionner mais qui fait l’essentiel parfaitement. L’espace est petit et industriel, dominé par un long comptoir rouillé qui contraste avec des murs blancs épurés. Ce qui le distingue vraiment, c’est le café : nos flat whites étaient parfaitement équilibrés, pas trop chauds, avec une mousse de lait onctueuse et le bon ratio lait-espresso. C’est un lieu où l’on croise plutôt des amateurs de café sérieux que des touristes, et c’est exactement le genre d’ambiance qu’on apprécie.
L’espace du bas mérite d’être noté si vous comptez rester un peu plus longtemps, même si nous l’avons manqué au début tant nous étions concentrés sur le bar. Les prix sont raisonnables pour du café de spécialité à Madrid (environ 2,50 € pour un flat white), et le service est efficace sans être pressant. Si vous cherchez un endroit pour prendre un vrai café sans le côté prétentieux ni la foule des zones touristiques, Waycup tient ses promesses.
