The Hound
“Matches your preference for quiet, immersive environments. This venue's atmosphere aligns with your saved favorites.”
About the Vibe
Tucked into the heart of Chiswick High Road, The Hound is JKS Restaurants' latest take on the classic British pub, housed in a building that once served as a Victorian police station. While the pedigree behind it is impressive—executive chef John Sparks and head chef Matt Birch bringing serious credentials—the execution feels a bit uneven. The space is undeniably grand with its internal courtyard and capacity for 155, but you'll find the food hits and misses: the cauliflower bhajias are genuinely excellent, while the tomato salad, despite looking beautiful, lacks the flavour you'd expect. The wine list is where things get tricky—it's extensive with 88 labels, but the markups are steep (3.4x retail on average), so you might want to skip the sommelier recommendations unless you're feeling generous. Still, for a proper pub meal in Grove Park, it's worth a visit if you're after the atmosphere and don't mind paying a premium for the JKS name.

Historic space, mixed results
The Hound is a curious mix of ambition and execution. Housed in what was once a Victorian police station on Chiswick High Road, the space is undeniably impressive with its large dining room and internal courtyard that can seat up to 155 people. The pedigree behind it is solid—JKS Restaurants (who own Trishna, Gymkhana, and Bao) brought in executive chef John Sparks and head chef Matt Birch to helm the kitchen. But despite the serious credentials, the experience feels a bit inconsistent.
On the positive side, the cauliflower and onion bhajias are genuinely excellent—crispy, fresh, and perfectly balanced with tamarind chutney. The haddock and chips also delivers on the classic pub promise. However, the tomato salad, while beautifully presented, tastes like it's missing something, and the wine list, though extensive, comes with markups that make you think twice before ordering. It's a place you might visit for the atmosphere and the history, but don't expect every dish to hit the mark.
