About the Vibe

Tucked away on Station Road in Sidcup, The Hackney Carriage is a proper micropub that sticks to its roots: no music, no TV, no phones, just real ale and conversation. Owner Liz Twort transformed an old shop into a cozy spot where locals actually talk to each other over a pint of ale or a glass of Prosecco. It's the kind of place where you'll find regulars by name and the atmosphere feels more like a friend's living room than a bar. The no-distraction policy might sound austere, but it's exactly what makes this place special in an era of screens and noise. You'll come for the community feel and stay because it's one of the few spots in Bexley that still feels genuinely local and unpretentious.

A proper micropub that puts conversation first

The Hackney Carriage is exactly what a micropub should be: intimate, unpretentious, and focused on what matters—good drinks and better company. Owner Liz Twort has created a space where the no-music, no-TV, no-phone policy actually works in your favor, forcing you to put your phone away and actually talk to the person sitting next to you. It's become a genuine community hub in Sidcup, with regulars who know each other by name and staff who remember your usual order.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming without being stuffy. You'll find a solid selection of real ales alongside Prosecco, wine, and the occasional gin or vodka if that's your thing. It's not flashy, but that's the point. This is a place for locals to hang out, not tourists to photograph. If you're looking for a quiet pint away from the noise and distraction of modern life, this is your spot.
