A proper vintage café with homemade charm
The Doll's House on the Hill is exactly the kind of place you stumble upon and wish you'd found sooner. It's a proper vintage café that hasn't tried to be trendy—it just does its thing with care. The Victoria sponge is genuinely excellent, moist and not too sweet, and their afternoon tea service is the real deal with proper china and a decent spread. The building itself has character, with those Victorian bread ovens still visible, and the pastel blue door makes it easy to spot on High Street. It's not fancy, but it's genuinely welcoming and feels like a local secret that's been around for years.
What sets it apart is the homemade quality—you can tell everything's made in-house, from the cakes to the bread. The staff seem to know their regulars by name, and the atmosphere is relaxed without being sleepy.
