The Chequers in Barkingside is a solid community pub that's managed to maintain its local character despite changing hands a few times. After a major refurbishment in 2015, the place feels fresh while still retaining that traditional British pub feel. The beer garden is a real highlight - it's dog-friendly and offers a pleasant outdoor space that's usable come rain or shine thanks to its covered areas.
The pub serves a good selection of real ales and cask-marketed beers, which is always a plus for ale lovers. They also run a carvery on weekends, which draws in a decent crowd for a Sunday meal. The atmosphere tends to be livelier on Friday and Saturday nights when they have a DJ and the place fills up with a younger crowd, but during the week it's more of a relaxed, local hangout. The staff can be friendly, though service can vary depending on how busy they are.
One thing to note is that they don't accept debit or credit cards anymore, so you'll need to hit the cash machine down the road if you're planning to stay for a few rounds. Le Chequers à Barkingside est un pub communautaire bien établi qui a su conserver son caractère local malgré plusieurs changements de direction. Après une rénovation majeure en 2015, l'établissement semble frais tout en maintenant cette ambiance traditionnelle de pub britannique. La terrasse est vraiment un point fort - elle accepte les chiens et offre un espace extérieur agréable, utilisable quelles que soient les conditions météorologiques grâce à ses zones couvertes.
Le pub propose une bonne sélection de bières artesanales et de bières en fût, ce qui est toujours un plus pour les amateurs de bière. Ils servent également un carvery le week-end, ce qui attire une foule décente pour un repas dominical. L'ambiance devient plus animée le vendredi et samedi soir quand ils ont un DJ et que l'endroit se remplit d'une clientèle plus jeune, mais en semaine c'est plutôt un lieu de détente local.
