The Bell is Walthamstow's sports-focused pub with a solid late-Victorian building that commands attention at the crossroads. While it's lost some of its former pub character since becoming more sports-led, it still delivers with eight ales on tap, a decent vegetarian board, and that reliable quiz night on Tuesdays. The beer garden and live music on third Sundays make it a decent weekend spot, though evenings tend to be more of a sports-watching crowd.
Sports-focused neighborhood pub with decent food
The Bell has definitely evolved from the beloved local pub it once was. These days it's very much a sports bar with Sky Sports and NFL Game Pass, which means the atmosphere shifts dramatically depending on what's on. Weekday evenings are quiet and perfect for a pint, but weekend afternoons can get packed with families and sports fans alike. The vegetarian options are actually decent for a pub—those balls and hummus are surprisingly good—and the beer garden is a nice touch in summer.
What works in its favor is the location at that ancient crossroads and the fact that it's still a community hub. The quiz nights on Tuesday keep people coming back, and the live music on third Sundays adds some variety. However, if you're looking for that traditional British pub experience with character and conversation, you might find it a bit too focused on screens and scores. It's a solid neighborhood spot, just not quite the gem it used to be.
