A neighbourhood pub that does the basics right
Alice House Queen’s Park has carved out a solid niche on Salusbury Road, becoming a reliable neighbourhood haunt for everyone from after-work drinkers to families hunting for a decent Sunday roast. The atmosphere is genuinely welcoming—breezy without being chaotic, and the staff strike that rare balance between attentive and unobtrusive. You’ll find a solid selection of independent beers on tap and a wine menu that doesn’t try too hard, but the real draw is the food: the roast beef comes tender and generously portioned, the Yorkshire puddings actually puff up, and the kids’ menu doesn’t feel like an afterthought.
It’s not perfect—the kitchen gap between 4 and 5pm is annoying if you’re hungry mid-afternoon, and the place can get a bit noisy when it’s packed—but for a neighbourhood pub that does the basics well without pretension, it’s hard to beat.
