The Original Ruin Bar Experience
Szimpla Kert is the place that invented the ruin bar phenomenon, and it's impossible to visit Budapest without at least checking it out once. The space itself is a treasure hunt - you'll find yourself ducking through doorways, climbing stairs to hidden courtyards, and discovering bars carved into old factory spaces. The decor is intentionally chaotic with vintage furniture, old bathtubs serving as bar counters, and walls covered in graffiti and art. It's loud, crowded, and very Instagram-friendly, which is exactly what you want if you're looking for that quintessential Budapest nightlife experience.
The real draw is the atmosphere - it's electric and unpretentious, with a mix of locals, expats, and tourists all mingling in the same space. The Sunday farmers market is a great daytime option if you want to avoid the evening crowds and party noise.
