If you want to understand why Berliners love their lakes, come to SeeGarten on a warm evening. The Biergarten sits right on the Greenwich Promenade along Tegeler See, shaded by old plane trees, with an open view across the water that turns golden as the sun goes down. It's not fancy — plastic chairs, wooden tables, self-service — and that's precisely the point. You grab a Störtebeker Pils from the bar, find a spot facing the lake, and let the afternoon stretch into evening.

The food menu is short and unapologetic: fish 'n' chips (€11.50) is the headline act, and it delivers — crispy battered fish with proper chips, eaten outdoors with a view that no indoor restaurant can match. The Flammkuchen — classic with bacon and onions, or the Mediterranean with Serrano ham and Parmesan — are thin, crispy, and perfect for sharing. There are also Brussels waffles with various toppings if you've got a sweet tooth, and a decent selection of wines and Bionade for non-beer drinkers.

It's seasonal and weather-dependent, so don't bother on a rainy day. On a sunny weekend, though, it fills up fast — especially the prime lakefront tables. Go early or go late; the sunset crowd is the best crowd here, but you'll need to be strategic about seating. Service can be slow when it's packed, but honestly, nobody comes here to rush.
