If you want to understand why Berliners love their lakes, come to SeeGarten on a warm evening. The Biergarten sits right on the Greenwich Promenade along Tegeler See, shaded by old plane trees, with an open view across the water that turns golden as the sun goes down. It's not fancy — plastic chairs, wooden tables, self-service — and that's precisely the point. You grab a Störtebeker Pils from the bar, find a spot facing the lake, and let the afternoon stretch into evening.

The food menu is short and unapologetic: fish 'n' chips (€11.50) is the headline act, and it delivers — crispy battered fish with proper chips, eaten outdoors with a view that no indoor restaurant can match. The Flammkuchen — classic with bacon and onions, or the Mediterranean with Serrano ham and Parmesan — are thin, crispy, and perfect for sharing. There are also Brussels waffles with various toppings if you've got a sweet tooth, and a decent selection of wines and Bionade for non-beer drinkers.

It's seasonal and weather-dependent, so don't bother on a rainy day. On a sunny weekend, though, it fills up fast — especially the prime lakefront tables. Go early or go late; the sunset crowd is the best crowd here, but you'll need to be strategic about seating. Service can be slow when it's packed, but honestly, nobody comes here to rush.

Ce n'est pas chic — chaises en plastique, tables en bois, self-service — et c'est exactement ce qu'on cherche. Vous prenez une Störtebeker Pils à la barre, vous trouvez une place face au lac, et vous laissez l'après-midi s'étirer jusqu'au soir.

La carte est courte et sans prétention : le fish 'n' chips (11,50 €) est la star, et il tient ses promesses — poisson croustillant, frites maison, dégusté en plein air avec une vue qu'aucun restaurant fermé ne peut égaler. Les Flammkuchen — classique avec lardons et oignons, ou méditerranéen avec jambon Serrano et parmesan — sont fins, croustillants, parfaits à partager. C'est saisonnier et dépendant de la météo, donc n'y allez pas un jour de pluie. Par contre, un week-end ensoleillé, ça se remplit vite — surtout les tables au bord de l'eau. Arrivez tôt ou tard : le public du coucher du soleil est le meilleur, mais il faut savoir jouer stratégique pour les places. Le service peut ralentir quand c'est plein, mais franchement, personne ne vient ici pour courir.
