Schmaltz

Schmaltz is a delightful find in Östermalm, a small but perfectly formed deli-bar that punches well above its weight. The Reuben sandwich is genuinely exceptional—sourdough bread, salted brisket, melted cheese, sauerkraut that rivals Günthers, and a Russian dressing that hits all the right notes without overwhelming. I've also had their chicken soup on a rainy day, which was warm and comforting with clear broth and tender chicken, though I wished for a touch more salt. The Bloody Mary is another standout—hands down the best I've had in Stockholm, perfectly balanced and spicy.

The space itself is intimate and welcoming, with an old-world charm that feels authentic rather than staged. Service is friendly and knowledgeable, and the staff clearly take pride in what they serve.
