Tucked into the ground floor of the Saatchi Gallery on Duke of York Square, this Searcys-run bar and brasserie is the kind of place you stumble into after wandering the galleries and end up staying longer than planned. The all-day menu leans on seasonal British classics, but the real draw is the Chelsea Afternoon Tea — served on striking Wedgwood Wonderlust china with a glass of Louis Pommery English sparkling. It's polished without being stuffy, and the setting inside the historic Duke of York HQ is genuinely lovely.
Afternoon tea on Wedgwood china with Louis Pommery sparkling, served inside Chelsea's historic Saatchi Gallery — art on the walls and on the table.
Afternoon tea runs Wednesday to Sunday, 3–5pm — book ahead and go for the £35 tea or upgrade to the £79 free-flowing Pommery option for 90 minutes.
Civilised brasserie dining inside the Saatchi Gallery
If you've ever wandered through the Saatchi Gallery and wondered where to refuel, the Bar & Brasserie by Searcys is right there on the ground floor — and honestly, it's better than it needs to be. Searcys took over in early 2020, reimagining the space as an all-day brasserie and Champagne bar, and they've done a solid job. The room itself is the star: high ceilings, exposed brick, and that grand Duke of York Square HQ architecture give it a real sense of place. You're eating inside a piece of Chelsea history.
The food is crowd-pleasing British brasserie fare — think smoked salmon mousse, Coronation chicken sandwiches, freshly baked scones with strawberry preserve. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's well-executed and the sourcing is thoughtful. The afternoon tea is the headline act here, served on Wedgwood's colourful Wonderlust collection, which adds a genuinely lovely touch. Pair it with a glass of Louis Pommery English Brut and you've got a very civilised afternoon sorted.
It's worth noting the opening hours are gallery-friendly — 10am to 6pm daily — so this isn't a dinner destination. Come for lunch, come for tea, come after you've seen the latest exhibition. The Google rating sits at 4.3 from a small pool of reviews, which feels about right: solid, dependable, and the setting does a lot of the heavy lifting. Prices are what you'd expect for Chelsea — afternoon tea starts at £35 per person, or £79 with free-flowing sparkling for 90 minutes.
