Tucked away on St. John’s Road near Clapham Junction, Ploussard is the kind of neighbourhood spot that feels like a well-kept secret. From the outside, it’s unassuming—a tiny corner spot with no real hint of what’s inside—but step in and you’re greeted by a sleek, modern interior with stained oak tables, concrete floors, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The founders, Matt Harris and Tommy Kempton (of Other Side Fried fame), have crafted a space that works equally well for a quick wine and snack at the bar or a leisurely small-plates feast with friends.
A Modern Neighbourhood Gem
Ploussard is a breath of fresh air in the Clapham Junction area—a neighbourhood restaurant that doesn’t try too hard but still delivers. The space is sleek and comfortable, with a bar at the back perfect for a pre-dinner drink and window stools that offer great people-watching. The menu is all about seasonal small plates, designed for sharing, and there’s a “Carte Blanche” option if you want to let the kitchen take the lead.
The food is where Ploussard really shines. Don’t miss the Lincolnshire Poacher eclairs—bite-sized pastry parcels stuffed with cheesy goodness that are an absolute must-order. The lamb and anchovy crumpet is another standout, with perfect balance and texture. Portions are generous, so plan to order six to eight dishes between two people to really experience the range. The wine list is equally impressive, with a focus on natural and biodynamic options that pair beautifully with the food.
It’s not perfect—the space is small, so reservations are essential, and the menu can change frequently (though that’s part of the charm). But for a neighbourhood spot that combines great food, thoughtful wine pairings, and a relaxed vibe, Ploussard is hard to beat. It’s the kind of place you’ll find yourself recommending to friends and returning to again and again.
