OBBO isn't your average bistro—it's a "cave à manger" that brilliantly blurs the line between wine bar and restaurant. Located in the heart of Nantes' 50 Otages district, this spot was born from the partnership of pastry chef Antoine Gaudin (formerly of Alexandre Couillon's three-star La Marine) and sommelier Guillaume Claireau. They've created something genuinely special: a place where you can start with a glass of natural wine and small plates, then transition seamlessly into a full tasting experience that feels elevated but never pretentious. The Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition for 2025 isn't just hype—this place delivers on both quality and value. Skip the traditional entrée/plat/dessert format and instead dive into their à la carte "tapas françaises" that let you build your own meal. The carrot cream starter and linefish tartare we tried were revelations, and don't skip dessert—Antoine's sweet creations are the kind of thing that'll make you want to stay for brunch the next morning (they do serve one in winter!).
A Wine Bar That Deserves a Michelin Star
OBBO is the kind of place that makes you want to tell all your friends about it immediately. Located in the vibrant 50 Otages neighborhood, this "cave à manger" successfully merges the best of a wine bar with serious restaurant credentials. The space feels warm and inviting without trying too hard—you'll see locals chatting over glasses of natural wine alongside tourists who've clearly done their research.
The food is where OBBO truly shines. Chef Antoine Gaudin brings his pastry background to create dishes that are both technically impressive and deeply flavorful. We started with the carrot cream with herb mayonnaise and glazed carrots—a simple concept executed to perfection. The linefish tartare with black curry cream was equally memorable, showcasing why this place earned its Michelin Bib Gourmand. What sets OBBO apart is the flexibility: you can come for a quick aperitivo with friends and share plates, or stay for a full meal that feels special without the stuffiness.
Their wine program, curated by Guillaume Claireau, deserves special mention. With 120+ references and a focus on organic and local producers, there's something for every palate. The staff's passion for what they're serving is evident in every recommendation. Whether you're a wine nerd or just someone who appreciates good food and drink, OBBO delivers an experience that feels both elevated and approachable.
