Macellaio RC South Kensington brings the Italian butcher tradition to Brompton with a theatrical twist. You'll find dry-aged Marango and Lake District beef presented tableside before being cooked to perfection, all set against scarlet walls and intimate candlelit tables. The beef fat candle for dipping bread is a quirky touch that sets the tone for this playful yet serious steakhouse.
Theatrical Italian Steakhouse with Serious Beef
Macellaio RC South Kensington is a charming steakhouse that feels more like a proper Italian butcher's shop than a typical restaurant. Walking in, you're greeted by dry-aged meat hanging from hooks and scarlet walls that create an intimate, slightly quirky atmosphere. The service is warm and knowledgeable - our waiter even brought a lit beef fat candle for dipping bread, which sounds odd but somehow works perfectly.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the beef. We tried the steak tartare with Fassona beef and a delicate yolk - the meat was fresh and elevated with pickles for a nice salty kick. For mains, the boneless Lake District ribeye wrapped in bone marrow was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, especially when paired with the marsala peppercorn sauce. The sides like mac 'n cheese and truffle fries were piping hot and perfectly executed.
It's pricier than your average steakhouse, but the quality justifies it. The Revolver platter at £75 feeds two generously. Book ahead for dinner - this place gets busy and the intimate seating fills up quickly. Perfect for a romantic night out or treating yourself to exceptional beef.
