Modern Food Hall with Excellent Local Vendors
Les Halles de Bacalan has quickly become one of Bordeaux's most popular food destinations, and for good reason. Located in the Bassins à flot neighborhood, just steps from the iconic Cité du Vin, this 1,000-square-meter market hall brings together 22 stalls offering everything from fresh seafood and artisanal cheeses to Asian and Réunionnais cuisine. The space feels modern yet authentic, with high ceilings, industrial lighting, and communal seating that encourages mingling.
What sets Les Halles apart is the quality and variety of vendors. You'll find a traditional boucherie, a fromagerie with local cheeses, a poissonnerie with the day's catch, and even stalls serving churros and Asian street food. The wine selection is excellent, with several cavistes offering bottles by the glass or to take home. It's perfect for a casual lunch where you can sample multiple vendors, or for an after-work drink with friends. The only downside is that it can get crowded during peak hours, especially on weekends, so arrive early or plan to wait for a seat.
