Le Cercle Rouge is the kind of place you stumble upon when you're wandering through Marseille's 1st arrondissement and decide to skip the tourist traps. It's the kind of spot where you'd want to linger over a glass of wine and chat with the person across from you. The menu is relatively small, which is a good thing—it means they focus on what they do well. The burrata with peaches is a standout appetizer, creamy and sweet in all the right ways, while the steak is cooked to a perfect medium-rare if you ask for it. Prices are very reasonable for the quality, with mains around 23 euros and appetizers starting at 11. Service is generally friendly, though don't be surprised if your server takes a minute to find you during the dinner rush. It's not a place for a quick bite, but for a relaxed, unhurried meal, it's hard to beat.
