A Niçoise townhouse hiding in plain sight
You'd never guess this place was here. Walk down the pedestrian rue Masséna, slip through the red porche, and suddenly you're in a cobblestone courtyard with a leafy terrace that feels miles from the chaos of Place Masséna. That transition alone is worth the visit — it's a genuine haven in the middle of the Carré d'Or.
The food is traditional Niçoise and Mediterranean, done with care and plated elegantly on branded tableware. The daube de Marie with ravioli niçois is the standout — slow-cooked, deeply flavored, and the kind of dish that makes you understand why this place has been packed for years. The loup en croûte de sel is a dinner highlight, as is the soupe de poisson. Service is attentive and stylish without being stuffy, and the wine list leans regional with a few surprises from further afield.
Come for lunch if you want the terrace — the shade of the patio on a summer afternoon is one of Nice's better-kept secrets.
