La Commune does something different from the usual Belleville bar scene: it's built entirely around punch. Not the fruity, umbrella kind — these are spirit-forward cocktails served in oversized silver bowls designed to be shared. You order a bowl, they ladle it out at the table, and that's the whole concept. It works because the cocktails are genuinely good and the communal format makes it a natural spot for group nights out.
The space itself is industrial-chic — concrete, marble, exposed surfaces — with a leafy terrace that fills up fast on warm evenings. Inside, it gets loud and buzzy, especially after 10pm on weekends. The small food menu (assiettes at 4-11€) is more of a sideshow to the drinks, but it does the job if you need something to soak up the punch.
Service can be hit or miss when it's packed, and the cocktail prices (10-13€) are fair for Paris but add up quickly if your group keeps ordering bowls. Still, it's one of the more original bar concepts in the 20th, and the terrace alone makes it worth knowing about. Open Tuesday through Saturday, 6pm to 2am.
